The Amplified Bible

The Amplified Bible has been a great blessing to me. Below is why I love using it.

What made me love this Bible was when a friend of mine shared with me Hebrews 4:12.

The NIV version says “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” But the Amplified version of the same scripture says “For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.”

Another scripture is John 16:33

NIV says, Jesus says.."I have overcome the world." The Amplified Bible translates this: "I have deprived the world of the power to harm you."

As you can see, The Amplified Bible version is a translation that uses synonyms and definitions while at the same time explaining and expanding the meaning of words in the text. The Amplified Bible does this by placing the amplification in brackets after the key words or phrases. This translation method allows you to better grasp the meaning of the words as they were understood in the original languages. This makes one gain a better understanding of what the Hebrew and Greek reader understands.
